The UK Government declared a climate emergency in 2019, with the built environment a major contributor to the environmental pressures our world is facing. The need to retrofit existing buildings is regarded as a key lever in the UK low carbon strategy to achieve 68% carbon reductions by 2030.
NuPlanet has the tools and skills to deliver whole house retrofit programmes to suit all building types in accordance with PAS2035:2019 (Specification for the Energy Retrofit of Domestic Buildings).

Portfolio Analysis, Strategies & Mapping
A primary challenge for Local Authorities and Housing Associations is the identification of properties within their portfolios that would benefit most from a Retrofit programme, and what funding streams are available to facilitate this. NuPlanet, and our Geo-Mapping partners, can provide a collaborative solution to this through a process of data capture, collation, analysis, and mapping.
Retrofit Adviser, Coordinator & Evaluator
Our Retrofit Coordinators are responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the whole retrofit programme. Their roles include delivering early stage retrofit advice, development of suitable retrofit strategies, arranging and overseeing pre-retrofit surveys and assessments, reviewing retrofit specifications, and providing outline programmes for medium to long term retrofit works packages. Our Retrofit Coordinators are responsible for ensuring the retrofit works are carried out in accordance with PAS 2035.
Our Retrofit Coordinators will review and highlight available funding streams & Government incentives such as, the Social Housing Decarbonization Fund (SHDF), Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) funding.
Our Retrofit Assessors undertake the initial site assessment to establish the condition of the target property and collect relevant data to feed into the baseline model that will be created by our Retrofit Coordinators. This baseline model forms the basis for the development of the Retrofit Strategy.
Low energy building modelling
To develop a thorough understanding of a properties pre and post retrofit energy requirements NuPlanet use a variety of software packages and design tools to interrogate fabric efficiency measures to minimise heating and hot water requirements. This process ensures the size and scope of renewable energy systems and fixed building services can be minimised.
Building Services strategy & design
NuPlanet can offer several MEP design options to support the retrofit programme, this can be as simple as developing a Building Services strategy and performance specification, right through to a full MEP design.
