OVERVIEW
Home Made House is a uniquely designed low energy, highly sustainable, self-build house. The site’s rural location meant that the designers had to demonstrate a design that offered exceptional quality and was truly outstanding or innovative, reflecting the highest standards in architecture to gain approval under Paragraph 79.
NuPlanet have were appointed by the clients to work with Yelo Architects to provide building compliance services, low energy building modelling, and a detailed building services design.
A fabric first approach was adopted, using Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) for the external walls due to its high performance and low air permeability qualities offering a very efficient fabric solution. ICF also offered the design flexibility required to create the curved walls.
NuPlanet carried out low energy modelling to help enhance the thermal comfort and energy efficiency and reduce the risk of overheating.
The proposed new house will include a full mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system, Ground source heat pump heating & hot water systems, and a home automation system that will be capable of controlling lighting, window treatments, HVAC, access, security and Audio & Visual systems.
